A Brief History of Furzehill School
12 August 1912 Furzehill Road School Opens
The first headmaster is William Tucker, and there are 223 pupils.
It is Borehamwood's first county council school (previously, children had gone to the National School in Theobald Street)
1913. Number of pupil grows to 400
7 February 1949. School burns down
July 1949. School rebuilt and opens
1950. School renamed Furzehill School (from Furzehill Road School)
Jan 1957. John Holland joins as Headteacher (until 1989)
1974. School changes from a JMI (Junior, Mixed & Infant) school to a middle school.
Name changes to Furzehill Middle School (from Furzehill School)
1989. John Holland retires as headmaster.
Phil Fryer joins as headmaster
